Technology

After his study chemistry Frank started at the Research Labs of Philips in Eindhoven as scientist in Semiconductors. He had to start with a box of bare silicon wafers and a flowchart and had to make memory IC’s from it. Doing everything yourself was a great learning! Such a start, with the go see for yourself mentality, is still an invaluable asset to het thin film related projects Frank is leading.

Equipment

Modern IC equipment is mechanically, electrically, optically and on software very complicated. At several stages at Philips, ASML and NXP, Frank gained experience with such equipment. But the physical principles, learned at the Philips Research labs, frequently turn out to be the foundation to solving problems.

DESIGN

Although Frank is not a designer and does not have specific design experience, Frank repeatedly governed design teams in developing new products or product optimizations. Agrim understands very well that a good relation of design and technology leads to winning products. Good designers are no “nerds” but are strong in communication to enable them to acquire and combine all requirements and boundary conditions for a winning design.

 Testing

Without testing no good products, and no quality! As department head Frank ruled several test groups, and he understands the continuous struggle to get the best test coverage at the lowest costs. Understanding of both the equipment and the products are essential for that..

RF

All challenges in the field of Technology, Design and Test with doubled complexity summarizes the RF field. At JDS Uniphase (2.5 and 10 GHz modulated lasers) and NXP (e.g. RF tags and GPS / WLAN applications) Frank gained extensive experience in this field, with its own problems and characteristics.

ASICs and MEMs

The integration of (ASIC) IC's with MEMs is a specific skill. During his assignment for Philips Innovation Services Frank did the alignment with an external IC supplier for the supply of wafers on which MEMs sensor were processed, and with that he gained useful experience in managing all interfaces.
